This, of course, is the inside of our beautiful medieval church. You might think it looks the same today but this picture was taken around 1900 and there are some important differences. Although the pews in the church today look old, they were only installed in the 1970s and prior to that were chairs as seen here. The next thing are oil lamps – no electricity in the church then. These lamps would have needed to be lowered, filled with oil and lit for every service. You would probably struggle to read your hymn books under those! But the biggest change is that there is no pipe organ since this was not installed until 1910. We are not sure what they used for music. Perhaps there was a small organ at the back. There used to be a gallery upstairs at the back but it was probably gone by this time.
