You might struggle to place this picture – it is Long Pond in 1960’s. The photographer is on Schole Road looking towards what is now the Pyrethrum Way development. Rampton Rd. is barely more than a track and the land behind is open all the way to Long Lane. Nowadays Long Pond is gradually filling in with rushes and water plants but in the past, it was dredged regularly as we see here. Like the original pond on the green, this pond suffers from lack of running water – it is really a huge puddle!
