Recently, this interesting photo was contributed to the site and show the inside of the old Baptist Tabernacle Church on George St. This may be a Sunday morning and possibly a special event. Two things are remarkable: first we see what the inside of this big church was like before it was demolished in the 1980s. There was a large upstairs gallery and, if it was like most churches, everyone would know where they sat each week. Woe betide if you took their spot. The second remarkable thing is how full it is, showing the importance of church to the village in 1950s. The church that now sits on this site would not hold half this many!
