A short way down Station Road from the traffic lights we find a general store on the east side. It is the 1970’s and Heinz baked beans are 7p per can and a jar of marmalade 12 ½ p. This shop was popular judging from the number of bikes but it was, even then, being demolished. The shop was owned by a Mr. Budd who, brick by brick, dismantled the house and built a new house on the land behind using the materials. You can see a stack of slates on the right. The new house is still there today but you would never know this story!
