If you go round to the back of the Parish Church you will find this little building. It is very old – built in the 1300’s and has an interesting history. Today it is called the “sacristy” but it was originally a sort of cell in which a person (usually a woman) would choose to be imprisoned for life to pray for the village and its people. After entering, she would never leave until death. The little window at the side (not the end) was a place where you could come to talk to the woman and ask for prayers, advice – or maybe get a little gossip since she would know everyone’s secrets! In return you would pass food or money through the window which is how the woman survived. If you are interested in learning more, Click Here
