In the past parades were and important part of village life and everybody took part. Great efforts were put into costumes to match the theme of the event. Here we see a parade, probably in the 1930’s-40’s. The girls are walking up Long Lane. Today the primary school would be on their right although, of course, it was not to be built for another 40 years. On their left are Thoday’s extensive greenhouses which covered most of the space from Long Lane to Rampton Rd and, at that time, grew peaches and grapes.
