There is lots going on in this picture from about 1910 in George St. on the corner of Love’s Lane. In the foreground is a well-dressed family in a pony trap with two young ladies wearing large hats. Perhaps they were setting off after a visit. Two young lads can just be seen hanging out of the front door – perhaps to wave them off. Caught by surprise in the background is a thatcher who is re-thatching the large barn next door. You can see the very long peg ladders used to scramble up and down to the roof. The house remains today pretty much unchanged at the front but the barn and shanty buildings running down to the Lode are all gone.
