This view in Church St. is mostly changed today although the building with the arched windows remains. The ramshackle workshop in the middle was used as a bicycle sales and repair shop in the 1910s. Behind it, the end of a larger thatched building is just visible. The big house on the right, with inglenook fireplace, is probably very old. It’s most likely fate was to burn down. What a shame. The date is unclear. It looks early but, intriguingly, the post outside appears to be a lamp but gas did not come to the village until the mid-1930s. Note the dirty state of the road and lack of pavements.
