The Lane behind the cottages that faced the school I think was refered to as "slop alley".

Ruth Purdue
The cottages on the left were on Church Lane, facing the cemetery. The cottages on the right (just visible) faced the infants' school playground.
The newer house at the back fronts onto Earith Road next to the old Rose and Crown.
